This is a very runnable route on undulating rolling grassy hills, some good paths, some off grid and with some incredible scenery when you can actually see but this year's weather was rubbish compared to the last 2 years with low cloud and rain. Thankfully quite warm though..
The Quaraing from last year which was a belter of a day compared to this year |

I felt great from the beginning of this race considering I'd raced at Jura the week before. I was able to pick off a few folk on the first climb then a couple more on the decent to CP1 where I was sitting 6th or 7th..

After CP1 it was off the path into the abyss of zero visibility! I pulled away from the bunch I was in trying to catch FJCV who was disappearing into the void. I kept bumping into him as we both weaved criss crossing each other's routes so we ran together for a while.
Counting the tags in the Orienteering bags I knew I was 4th. Then Javier and I split again and at the next CP only 2 tags in the bag!
Descending onto the road |
Finally out of the clag I opened it up on the decent with nobody behind me..
I finished 3rd overall and 1st vet!

3rd overall 1st vet and beers! |
Great night at the bowling club for the prize giving and chili catching up with everyone. I was careful carrying my loot back to the van! Last year the arse of Ally Beaven's beer box fell out and his beer smashed all over the pavement so i was cradling my box like a baby!

Also good to catch up with Phil Kammer who was over supporting his mate in the race and also at CP1 taking pics. Good man!
